Engineering jobs in Kerala government 2026 - who hires engineers

Kerala's engineering recruitment splits between the state engineering departments filled through Kerala PSC, the state PSUs and boards that hire directly, and the central institutions and PSUs in Kerala. Kerala PSC handles Assistant Engineer, Overseer and Draftsman posts for PWD (roads, buildings, electrical), Irrigation, Kerala Water Authority, Local Self Government Department engineering wing, Harbour Engineering, Ground Water, Soil Survey and the Electrical Inspectorate, and also Sub Engineer and Assistant Engineer for KSEB. Direct recruiters include Cochin Shipyard, Cochin Port, KMRL, KELTRON, KSIDC, KINFRA, KSRTC, Kerala Feeds, KMML, TCC, Malabar Cements and the IT parks. Central recruiters are VSSC/LPSC/IISU, FACT, BPCL Kochi Refinery, HLL Lifecare, NIT Calicut, IIT Palakkad, C-DAC, CUSAT and the Southern Railway division at Palakkad. Branch-wise: civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer science

Civil engineers have the largest state pool - AE and Overseer posts in PWD, Irrigation, KWA, LSGD and Harbour Engineering appear regularly through Kerala PSC, and KRDCL, KMRL, KIIFB projects and Kochi Corporation hire site engineers on contract. Mechanical engineers should watch Cochin Shipyard, KSEB (Sub Engineer Mechanical), Irrigation mechanical wing, FACT, BPCL, Malabar Cements, KMML, VSSC and Polytechnic lecturer posts. Electrical engineers have KSEB as the single biggest employer, plus PWD Electrical Wing, LSGD, Electrical Inspectorate, Cochin Shipyard and KMRL. Electronics and instrumentation candidates fit VSSC, KELTRON, C-DAC, Cochin Shipyard, KSEB (communication) and the Technical Education department. Computer science and IT engineers have C-DAC, KELTRON, KSITM, Kerala Startup Mission, Digital University, KITE and IT-cell contract posts across departments, and central posts at NIT and IIT.

Diploma and ITI engineering posts

Diploma holders are recruited by Kerala PSC as Overseer / Draftsman Grade III (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) for PWD, Irrigation, KWA and LSGD, as Sub Engineer trainees and Meter Readers for KSEB, as Tradesman and Demonstrator in Technical Education, and by Cochin Shipyard, VSSC (Technical Assistant), KMRL and PSUs as junior engineers and technical assistants. ITI candidates have Technician and Tradesman posts at VSSC, Cochin Shipyard (workmen and apprentices), KSEB (Lineman, Electrician), PWD workshops, KSRTC, Technical Education and Southern Railway. How Kerala PSC engineering recruitment works

AE and Overseer categories are department-wise and branch-wise, each with its own category number and rank list. Selection is a written OMR or online exam on the branch subjects plus general knowledge, followed by certificate verification. AE posts require BTech/BE (or AMIE) in the branch; Overseer posts require a diploma (or a degree, in which case the candidate is also eligible for AE). KSEB Assistant Engineer is a large category with a separate PSC exam. Rank lists for engineering posts usually last two to three years, and appointments come in batches as departments report vacancies.

Central and PSU engineering entry routes

ISRO's VSSC, LPSC and IISU recruit Scientist/Engineer SC through the ICRB centralised exam and GATE, and Technical Assistants and Technicians through their own tests. Cochin Shipyard recruits Executive Trainees (through GATE or its own exam), Project Officers and Assistants on contract, and ITI and graduate apprentices in batches. FACT, BPCL Kochi Refinery and HLL Lifecare take management and engineer trainees. NIT Calicut and IIT Palakkad hire Junior Engineers, Technical Assistants, Junior Technicians and project staff under central rules. Graduate and Technician Apprentice posts at all these institutions, through the Board of Apprenticeship Training (Southern Region), are the simplest way for a fresh engineering graduate or diploma holder to enter the government sector in Kerala.
