Anganwadi recruitment 2026 Kerala - how it actually works

Anganwadi recruitment in Kerala does not happen through one state-wide notification or through Kerala PSC. Kerala has more than 33,000 Anganwadi centres under 258 ICDS projects, and each project's Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) publishes a notice whenever a centre needs a worker or helper - because of retirement, resignation, promotion or a new centre. That means there are Anganwadi vacancies open somewhere in Kerala almost every week, but each one is limited to women who live in that specific ward or panchayat. Anganwadi worker (teacher) and helper - eligibility

Anganwadi Worker, popularly called Anganwadi teacher, requires SSLC (Plus Two candidates get preference under recent Kerala orders and some projects now ask for Plus Two), age 18 to 46, female, resident of the centre's area, with Malayalam literacy. Anganwadi Helper requires a Class 8 pass (SSLC in many notices) and the same age and residence conditions. Widows, deserted women, SC/ST candidates and those with prior experience as helpers or in Kudumbashree get weightage marks under the selection rules. Selection is by a merit list prepared from marks for education, experience and social status, followed by an interview at the project or district level. The appointment is honorary, not a regular government post, but Kerala's honorarium, pension scheme and welfare fund make it one of the best Anganwadi packages in India.

ICDS Supervisor, DCPU and Kudumbashree posts

Women with a degree should look beyond the worker post. ICDS Supervisor is a regular Kerala PSC post (degree in Sociology, Social Work, Home Science, Psychology or Child Development), notified state-wide and district-wise with a written exam; a share of Supervisor vacancies is reserved for promotion of Anganwadi workers. District Child Protection Units recruit counsellors, social workers, outreach workers, data analysts and legal-cum-probation officers on contract, usually needing MSW, psychology or law. Kudumbashree district missions hire resource persons, community organisers, accountants and project coordinators. Social Justice Department programmes (gender resource centres, one-stop centres, Sakhi, old-age homes, children's homes) advertise caretaker, counsellor and manager posts through the district Social Justice Officer.

How to apply and what to attach

Anganwadi applications are submitted in person or by post to the CDPO office named in the notice, on the prescribed form, before the last date. Attach self-attested copies of the SSLC certificate (for age and qualification), Plus Two and higher certificates if any, a residence certificate from the ward member, panchayat or village officer proving you live in the centre's area, community certificate, a widow or deserted-woman certificate if applicable, experience certificates, Aadhaar and passport photos. Keep the originals ready for the interview. Do not pay anyone for a form or a recommendation - selection is on the published merit list, and the list is displayed at the CDPO office.
