Kerala Police recruitment 2026 - how the cycle works

Kerala Police does not run its own constable recruitment; every regular uniformed post is notified by Kerala PSC. A Civil Police Officer notification usually appears district-wise (one category per district plus a separate Woman CPO category), while Sub Inspector, Police Constable (Driver), Armed Police Battalion and India Reserve Battalion posts are state-wide. Between notifications there can be a gap of one to three years, so when a CPO category opens, every eligible Plus Two candidate in the age band should apply - the next chance may be after they cross the age limit. We list each notification here as soon as it is released and again when the exam confirmation window opens.

Eligibility, age and physical standards

Civil Police Officer needs Plus Two or equivalent and age 18 to 26 (with community relaxations); Sub Inspector needs a degree and age 20 to 31. Men must be at least 168 cm tall with an 81 cm chest and 5 cm expansion; women 157 cm. The Physical Efficiency Test for men has eight events - 100 m run, high jump, long jump, shot put, 1500 m run, rope climbing, pull-ups and cricket ball throw - and candidates must qualify in five. Women have a separate set of events. Vision and other medical standards also apply. Candidates should start physical preparation as soon as they apply rather than waiting for the written result, because the gap between shortlist and PET can be short.

Written exam pattern

CPO and Woman CPO go through the Plus Two level common preliminary exam (100 marks OMR, general knowledge, current affairs, Malayalam, English, simple arithmetic and mental ability) and then a main exam. Sub Inspector uses the degree-level preliminary followed by a descriptive main exam with general studies, reasoning and language papers. Physical tests are conducted only for candidates shortlisted from the written stage, and the final rank is based on the written marks; physical tests are qualifying. Home Guard, NCC and sports achievements may carry weightage marks as stated in the notification.

Excise, Fire & Rescue and Forest posts

Candidates preparing for the police usually also qualify for Civil Excise Officer, Excise Guard, Fireman and Beat Forest Officer, which have similar Plus Two eligibility and physical standards and are notified by Kerala PSC on their own schedules. Excise Inspector and Assistant Station Officer (Fire) are degree-level. Applying to all of them multiplies the chances of an early appointment. Kerala Police also recruits a small number of technical, telecom, forensic, IT and clerical staff, and Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation hires engineers and project staff outside PSC.

Documents and reservation

Keep SSLC (for age), Plus Two or degree certificate, community and non-creamy layer certificate, Home Guard or NCC certificate if applicable, ex-servicemen documents and ID ready in your Thulasi profile before the probability list stage. Sports quota recruitment for Kerala Police happens separately through the Kerala Police Sports Quota notifications and needs national or state level certificates.
