University and research jobs in Kerala 2026 - a large, under-searched market

Research and university jobs are the largest single source of notifications on this site for Kerala - more than a third of all listings - and they are also the least searched, which means less competition per post. Kerala has ten state universities, a central university, IISER, NIT, IIT and IIM, three CSIR/DBT/DST laboratories (NIIST, RGCB, NCESS), four ICAR institutes (CTCRI, CPCRI, CMFRI, CIFT), ISRO's three centres, SCTIMST and RCC, and the KSCSTE network (KFRI, CWRDM, JNTBGRI, IAD, NATPAC). Every one of them hires project staff continuously as new grants are sanctioned, publishes faculty and non-teaching vacancies on its own website, and rarely advertises beyond a PDF on that site. This page collects those PDFs daily so that a candidate with a degree, PG, NET or PhD can see every live opening in one place.

Assistant professor and guest faculty

Permanent assistant professor posts in state universities and government colleges follow UGC norms (PG with 55% plus NET, SET or PhD) and are filled by the universities through their own selection boards, or by Kerala PSC for government colleges under Collegiate Education. Central institutions - Central University of Kerala, IISER, NIT Calicut, IIT Palakkad, IIM Kozhikode - run rolling faculty recruitment with all-India eligibility. Guest faculty and contract lecturer posts in university departments, government colleges and self-financing colleges under the universities appear every semester and are filled by interview. KTU, Digital University and the Malayalam University are newer and hire faculty and staff in batches. All of these are listed under the Teaching Jobs category as well.

JRF, SRF, project assistant and research associate posts

Project posts are the fastest way into research in Kerala. A DST, CSIR, DBT, ICAR, ISRO, KSCSTE or UGC funded project at any of these institutions creates JRF (PG with NET or GATE, or PG alone for many state projects), Project Assistant or Project Fellow (degree or PG), SRF (two years' research experience), Research Associate (PhD) and Field Assistant posts, usually notified for a few weeks with an interview or a walk-in. Fellowships follow the funding agency (JRF around Rs 31,000 to 37,000 per month plus HRA under central norms, less under some state schemes). The subjects are broad - biotechnology, chemistry, materials, marine science, fisheries, agriculture, tuber and plantation crops, earth sciences, space technology, medicine, social sciences at CDS and the universities, forestry, water resources and engineering. NIT, IIT and IISER also engage project engineers and technical assistants for engineering projects.

Non-teaching and technical posts in universities

Kerala PSC recruits the permanent administrative cadre of the state universities - University Assistant is one of the largest degree-level PSC categories, and Computer Assistant, Section Officer (by promotion), Lab Assistant, Library Assistant and Office Attendant categories appear periodically. The universities themselves recruit technical assistants, lab staff, IT staff, data entry operators, drivers and security on contract, and their affiliated research centres hire technical officers and skilled assistants. Central institutions fill Junior Assistant, Technical Assistant, Junior Engineer, Library Information Assistant, Superintendent and Section Officer posts through all-India exams with no Malayalam requirement; NIT Calicut, IIT Palakkad, IISER and the Central University run such recruitments every one or two years.

Scientists and permanent research posts

Permanent scientist posts come through the parent agency: ASRB for ICAR institutes (CTCRI, CPCRI, CMFRI, CIFT), CSIR for NIIST, DBT for RGCB, DRDO for NPOL, ISRO for VSSC, LPSC and IISU (Scientist/Engineer SC through ICRB), and KSCSTE for its institutes (Scientist B and C through its own notification). SCTIMST and RCC recruit medical and biomedical scientists and engineers directly. Candidates should treat project experience at these institutes as the standard route to a scientist post, and should watch the Central Government Jobs and Engineering Jobs pages for the ISRO and CSIR notifications.
