Kerala PSC latest notification 2026 - how to read it

Every Kerala PSC vacancy is published in a gazette with a category number (for example 123/2026), a department, a post name, scale of pay, number of vacancies (often "anticipated"), method of appointment, age limit, qualification, and whether the post is state-wide or district-wise. The single most important field is the qualification wording. "SSLC or equivalent" is not the same as "Plus Two or equivalent"; "degree in any subject" is not the same as "degree in Commerce"; and "Malayalam knowledge" may mean a separate Malayalam test for candidates who did not study it at SSLC level. We list each new notification here with those fields extracted, so you can decide in a minute whether it is worth applying.

PSC job list by qualification

SSLC candidates have the 10th-level preliminary exam group: Last Grade Servant, Office Attendant, Cook, Watchman, Attender, Police Constable (Driver), Peon and departmental support posts, plus district-wise LGS lists. Plus Two candidates have the largest group - LDC, Civil Police Officer, Woman Civil Police Officer, Beat Forest Officer, Fireman, Excise Guard, Village Field Assistant, LD Typist, Data Entry Operator and Company/Board LDC - most of them through the Plus Two level common preliminary exam followed by a main exam. Degree holders have the degree-level preliminary group: Assistant in the Secretariat, Universities and PSC itself, Sub Inspector, Excise Inspector, Company/Board Assistant, Junior Employment Officer and Auditor. ITI and diploma candidates get Tradesman, Overseer, Draftsman, Technician and Workshop Instructor posts in Technical Education, PWD, KWA, KSEB and Irrigation. Nursing, pharmacy, paramedical, engineering, medical, teaching and law graduates have dedicated professional categories that do not use the common preliminary exam.

The exam cycle - and where candidates lose out

Application on Thulasi is only the start. Kerala PSC later announces the exam date and opens a one-time confirmation window; candidates who do not confirm are treated as absent. After the preliminary exam, a shortlist is published, then the main exam, then the probability list, certificate verification (sometimes with a Malayalam or physical test), the final rank list and finally the advice memo when a vacancy is reported by the department. District choice and reservation

For district-wise categories (LDC, LGS, VFA, CPO), the district you select on the application decides your rank list and your posting. Applicant numbers vary hugely - Malappuram and Thiruvananthapuram lists are very long, Kasaragod, Wayanad and Idukki lists are short - so a candidate willing to relocate can be advised much earlier by choosing a smaller district. Reservation follows Kerala's communal rotation (SC, ST, OBC groups, EWS) and needs the correct community and non-creamy layer certificates in the Thulasi profile before the probability list stage. Sports quota, ex-servicemen, PwD and NCC/Home Guard weightage each have separate rules in the notification.

Preparing for Kerala PSC exams

The preliminary and main exams for LDC, LGS and Plus Two level posts test general knowledge (with a Kerala focus), Malayalam, basic English, simple arithmetic and mental ability, current affairs, and for degree-level posts a heavier general studies and reasoning component.
